Rude English Placenames
Mar. 30th, 2024 10:48 pmI have been thinking about several posts regarding #Kategate, the British Royal Family, the plethora of racism, sexism and xenophobia this institution inspires, and the misinformation promulgated by the the British Media. But this is not that post. This post is utter nonsense.
My husband delights in British (primarily English) placenames that sound rude or sexually explicit out of context. This had led him to make up some of his own to be used when talking about particularly egregious cases of xenophobia, racism or other nonsense in the news.
His absolute favorite, which makes me cry with laughter is Stroke-on-Taint, a town which lies somewhere between Cockfosters and Shaftesbury.
