The #cinephilephote meme on twitter had me thinking about favorite filmes, or perhaps, films that have stayed with me. Films can be so ephemeral sometimes, so I had to dig deep. I'm sure I'll think of more, but these are the films that really are a part of me in some way:

  1. Trois couleurs: Bleu (Three Colors: Blue)

  2. When Harry Met Sally

  3. Der Himmel über Berlin (Wings of Desire)

  4. Contact

  5. Another Earth

  6. Dirty Dancing

  7. Shall we ダンス? (Shall we Dance?)

  8. となりのトトロ (My Neighbor Totoro)

  9. 火垂るの墓 (Grave of the Fireflies)

  10. Real Genius

  11. Back to the Future

  12. Some Kind of Wonderful

  13. White Christmas

I know I'll think of more to add to this later, but I'd love to know what films you love or have resonated with you so deeply that they've become a part of you.

You've just been dying to use this Gif, haven't you? I swear to god, whenever DD comes on tv when I'm flipping, I stop everything I'm doing. I love the dance scenes!

Yay, another person who was touched by Grave of the Fireflies. That is such as awesome but heart-breaking movie. Did you cry? Hubby and I cried through the entire thing, start to finish. So incredibly sad. What a devastating look at the horrors of children in war.

*hugs, mucho hugs*

I was in Japan when I saw it, so I ended up watching it in Japanese. This meant I understood it more visually and didn't get the full nuance. But it was a heartbreaking film - something I think you couldn't explore as fully in live action as in anime.

*hugs back*

It's so gorgeous. There is something about the isolation of the angels and of the people and all the thoughts that just sucks me in. What an incredible story told through thoughts and colors and expressions and a bit of narrative.

God, I'm getting chills.

♥ Real Genius ♥

I loved that movie so very much and probably watched it about a gazillion times back in the day. And now I want to watch it again. :)

There were some amazing screwball films back in the 80s that had some other layer of something special going on. I want to watch this one again too.
