Let's Talk About Something Serious - Sherlock's Hair

This is a topic that is very near and dear to my heart. I seriously have a thing for Sherlock’s hair. I love drawing it, enjoy reading about it, and fantasize about giving it a good yank.

*sigh*

But Sherlock’s hair isn’t all that consistent. I adored his Series 1 hair - it was so full and rich and curled every which way. But his Series 2 hair was a lot less fun. The curls only seemed to appear when there was a strong breeze. The rest of the time, they were carefully combed down. This is really apparent in the trial scene in TRF where Sherlock’s hair is overcombed and overstyled until it looked like his locks were merely wavy and not curly.

By Series 3, his gorgeous curls were back, even when cut rather short in TSOT. When Claire Prichard explained that she didn’t style Benedict’s hair for Series 2, this difference made sense. Whoever did his hair for Series 2 must not have been using the twist and diffuse method.

My favorite Sherlock hair had to be in HLV. The curls were full and soft and touchable and framed his beautiful face. I think my favorite hair moment was when he and John were riding the elevator up Magnussen’s tower. However, my least favorite hair moment was also in Series 3. In Many Happy Returns, Sherlock’s hair is a crispy, crunchy mess. I guess even the world’s only consulting detective has bad hair days, and that was definitely the worst I’d seen.

So tell me, what’s your favorite Sherlock hair? And what’s you’re least favorite?

Ha! I have the opposite feelings about Sherlock's hair from season to season. When my hair was that length, I had pretty much his exact amount of curl as in Season 2, so of course to me, that's what looked the most natural.



LOVE. IT.

His curls in Season 3 look a little too styled to me. I don't like how flat it is on top, and the little flip curls at the end just look awkward. I think a lot of it is also they're styling it to cover his changing hairline.



IMO, the best his hair looks in Season 3 is when he's all drugged out.



Because those are some damn perfect curls.

I knew you would come with pictures. I love me some of that Shezza hair. I love a little filthy and messed up. I agree that I really don't like the overstyled hair in the image from the day of TEH filming. I wonder how much his hair quality reflected the weather. Both HLV and ASiB were filmed in the late summer while TEH was filmed in March and April.

SHEZZA HAIR. UNF. That was the best hair. (Also it was reminiscent of Summer!Batch from last year, between filming TSoT and HLV, when he was doing Top Gear and the Japan visit and he just looked gorgeous.)

Then again, I have an unhealthy attraction to Shezza anyway, so...

Both of my paintings of Sherlock used Season 1 hair as a hair reference, and so I think I'm biased into thinking that his fluffiest, best arranged hair was season 1. I generally thought season 3 hair was a bit too crispy-looking, but there were definitely hair fluffing moments that made me melt. I'll need to rewatch season 3 specifically for the hair.
