I avidly followed all the #setlock reports and filming updates, it was exciting to finally see all these bits and pieces come together in the finished episodes. However, not all the moments fans saw filmed were used.

Interestingly, there was one particular moment of filming/photography that didn’t make it into any of the episodes or the minisode and yet adorns the inside cover of the series 3 DVD and the cover of the series 3 soundtrack.  This was the image the BBCOne Twitter used to promote the beginning of the series on December 3rd and January 1st.

I think the BBC was letting us know the central thread linking these episodes. Those of us who were drawn to the vibe of unrequited love and longing (whether platonic or romantic) on Sherlock’s part throughout the series did so for a reason. It was the intended underlying theme of the series and was foreshadowed in this promo still.

So perf I can't even. Especially when combined with Acafanmom's analysis talking about how Season 3 was Sherlock's POV, and yet here he is in this promo shot, outside looking in.

OUR BB FEELS OUTSIDE OF JOHN'S LOVE.

This series is giving me nothing but angsty art bunnies. My heart aches for Sherlock.

I love this analysis. Oh my god, this whole season was about this: Sherlock was left outside, looking in. And yet he sacrificed so much of himself for John.

He had a lot to make up for and poor John. I remember when guessing about stuff for Spoilercast that we had speculated that the fallout from Reichenbach would be carried over through the whole series. But Moftiss said that Reichenbach would be resolved in TEH, so we took that to mean the emotional resolution would be completed then too. But I think that we misunderstood. The solution to the fall was over and done with in TEH but the fallout includes John and Mary's relationship and how Mary has replaced Sherlock as the focal person in John's life. And yet the reverse is not true. John is still integral and we witness this intensely.

So do I. I even visited the pizzeria when I was last in London to take a few angsty selfies, so I was particularly curious to see it not in any of the three episodes.
