Continuing to make slow headway on coloring my WIP for [livejournal.com profile] emmagrant01's John/Sherlock fic, A Cure for Boredom. Prior drafts of this piece can be seen at the links below:
Parts I and II
Parts III and IV
Part V
Parts VI and VII

Part VIII
I agonized over the color of the sofa, which seems to be an indeterminate color between beige and light puke. I settled on a golden brown because that was close enough, and I prefer using marker to colored pencil when I need to fill in large areas. Next up will be the floor, which will be basic and boring, and probably brown.

John's face also came out looking younger, which is fine in light of how youthful Sherlock came out. I seem to be stuck at drawing people who look forever 21. Clearly an area I need to work on.

My favorite part has been coloring what [livejournal.com profile] droxy calls the tacky wallpaper. I'm very satisfied with the colors on that. What I'm not satisfied with is how this is going to turn out when I try to turn off the lights and make it all appear dark. This is why I've left off with the wallpaper colored in the middle, where it is illuminated by light from the laptop, whereas the rest will be in shadow. I toyed with the idea of just doing everything in shades of blue, which would have meant skin tones and all other colors would have been blue and grey and purple and black. However, I wanted a bit more warmth in this piece (and I like color!), and I thought too much detail would be lost by going truly in the dark. I also didn't have confidence in my ability to pull it off well. My plan is to go over everything that is supposed to be in shadow in dark blue, brown and black after I finish with base colors. We'll see how this turns out, especially as I find it harder to blend dark colors over lighter colored pencil that is more waxy and doesn't take new color as well.

Uhg, I hate that feeling of "What if I ruin it?!?!" It feels so paralyzing! The only comfort I can offer is that (worst case scenario) if you've done it once, you *can* do it again, but otherwise, even if you feel like you made a mistake, *finish it*. You might surprise yourself that the "mistake" wound up giving it a whole new character! :)

I'm curious, what kind of markers/pencils are you using?

Hahahaha. I notice clothing b/c drawing it is the bane of my existence. Nudity, spandex, and lycra ftw!
