Who knew the Daily Mail was into writing real person fanfic. Here's one about Benedict that is really out there. Amazing how adept the writer is at interspersing quotes with actual fantasy to weave this piece of fiction.

I wonder if they know about Ao3. I'm tempted to send them an invite.

Seriously, they are professional liars, and the only difference between a journalist and a RPF fan fiction writer is the fanfiction writer puts a fantasy disclaimer on their work.

The Daily Mail is such a horrible pile of shite. Our friend from the North calls it the "Book of Hate". I have found myself thinking less of people after discovering The Daily Mail open in their browsers.

I can't imagine a life where people would print this sort of awful gossip about me as gospel truth. Ugh. Poor Benedict. It sucks that it's so hard to make a good case for libel, or it would be nice to blow off a bit steam by suing the hell out of those creeps.

This might sound crazy, but I think this is amazingly GOOD PR for Benedict. I'm not just saying that. I read it a few hours ago and this is what I retained:

He isn't from a posh background. Now that he's rich, he is being careful with the money.

That woman with him at the club is an old friend, not a date.

He goes for intelligent women.

He still lives where he lived before he was famous.

He's capable of long relationships and he wants kids.

He's not unattainably smart. He's smart but not Oxbridge, and people are envious of his success. Even this article didn't buy what that alleged former classmate said.

Honestly, I think this did more from his image than a straightforward puff piece. All his shortcomings portray him as relatable, flawed in a human way, and hardworking.

I hate the Daily Fail. They just spew made up hate over people and call it news.

But unfortunately the only thing I can do is to not read it. I don't even click on links that lead to their website. I hate a lot of the celebrity culture actually, and try to buy into it as little as possible. People deserve to have private lives and not be photographed by the paparazzi or have lies made up about them - even if they are famous.

But like I said, there's very little I can actively do to stop it other than not buy into it at all. So I try not to. If everyone did that they'd have no reason to do it.

This article is so bad it made me lol.

This: "This homoerotic tease, and his role as minister at a gay wedding in Ibiza between two male friends, seem alarmingly out of character" is so weird to me. First Benedict is bombarded with accusations of homophobia for being (sort of) uncomfortable about depictions of his body in slash art, and now they're subtly trying to imply that he's secretly gay, or something? What? Who's perpetuating heteronormality now?
