I decided to celebrate my completed [livejournal.com profile] holmestice piece by getting started on coloring my WIP for [livejournal.com profile] drinkingcocoa. I've decided to give Sherlock's coat some texture with cross-hatching.

Congratulations on finishing your Holmestice piece and squeeeee, what a lovely treat for all of us! I adore their expressions of mutual distrust and can't stop looking at Sherlock's scarf and Severus's buttons. YAY!

And the same to you! I saw that you had sent yours off early as well. I can't get used to being early for something.

I love that blue for his scarf. This picture is a labor of love, and I so hope it comes out the way I see it in my head.

Oh wow, the texture on Sherlock's coat is amazing! Can't wait to see more!

I love doing that, but it takes forever! :)

This is truly remarkable art. I'm in awe. Seriously, this is fantastic.

Awe, thank you. When I finally finish it and send it to drinkingcocoa, you'll be able to see it in person. The scans somehow can never really reflect the true colors of the original.

Thanks babe. I need to make sure I keep drawing Snape.

Oh, wow.

That coat texture.

That is magic.

Love the peek of pencils in the photo corner.

It's honestly not because it's for me, but I really think it' s my favorite of anything you've ever done. Those facial expressions! Oh, maybe tied with the Snape shower curtain.

Oh where did that Snapey shower curtain end up. That's a hysterical one to remember. I have such a drive to finish this even though I have several other pieces due.

Me too. I particularly like Severus. He's turning out the way I want him to.

Holy cow, that's beautiful. I really like the detail you're putting into Sherlock's coat! (It wasn't until recently that I realized that it isn't a flat black.)

Hooray for finishing Holmestice!

Thank you. The cross-hatching takes a while, but it does really capture the coat so much better I think.

And yeah for Holmestice!

I came back to look and now my favorite thing is how you've captured the essence of each man's stance. Sherlock has that elegant, cat-like slouch and Snape is rigid and upright. Both men are ready to act, one springlike, one unyielding.

The little hints of flesh are also heartstopping. The back of Sherlock's hands, the bit of throat under Snape's collars.

Squee! I' am class but my students are doing groupwork. I love that you noticed this. And both are so very covered up, aren't they?

Date: 2012-11-22 12:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] drinkingcocoa.livejournal.com
Now I realize that they are all swept up in being "I'm smarter and cooler than you" and then some threat will materialize and both will spring into action immediately in some fashion that is unimaginably bad-ass and they will work perfectly and excitingly together and then afterwards it'll be all awkward like "That was...actually...really cool" even though they're still deeply suspicious of each other and wanting to be like "my brain is bigger. No, mine."

Class is over! And I just wanted to add how much I like this scenario and also how much I love that they have their own distinct style of superhero cape that match their personas: a billowing black robe and a swishy grey coat!

Parking this comment here: I laughed really loudly, causing Husband to stop what he was doing (I said, "It's just like when this happens to you: it won't make sense if I explain it") when I didn't see the tumblr post about why don't people ship Lestrade/Dimmock. I just really lost it. Yes, fandom really would turn its back on a potential pairing because of an insurmountable problem like that!

Anyway, just saying, I ship Dimmock's unrequited, dignified, ardent crush on Lestrade like crazy. Like crazy, I tell you. The entirely proper and restrained way he offered space in his flat for Lestrade to crash after the Met put him on leave post-Reichenbach and his wife threw him out...I want the universe to cough up a fic like that! Hmm, I suppose this is what prompting is for.

Yes, fandom really would turn its back on a potential pairing because of an insurmountable problem like that!

If there's a will, there's a way.

If only you had participated in Holmestice. You could have requested a fic exactly like that. And then offered to bake cookies or knit Johnlock mittens for someone.

Oh how I fucking love my Johnlock mittens.

I wasn't sure a finite knitting project would be adequate for all the work that goes into a fic...?

But yeah, I was up to my neck in my SSHG Exchange thingie and the wild riches of Emma's made-to-order story for me, so I had no unfulfilled fandom needs at the time of Holmestice sign-ups. Now I do, though!

*screams*

That looks sensational!

Also, hooray on the [livejournal.com profile] holmestice. I just submitted mine, too. *breathes*

Squee! Holmestice might be full of familiar voices this time around.

I've got two more pieces for other things that I owe, but I just want to draw Sherlock and Snape together for drinkingcocoa!

This is coming along beautifully!

I think the crosshatching on Sherlock's coat is just right, and I love the shading on his face.

From: [identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com
It has taken forever, but it's turned out the way I hoped. Snape's robes on the other hand are making me not as happy. I'd like to do something similar but not too similar.

*nods* Black is by far the most difficult colour with which to achieve depth and texture.

Oh I love this! Sherlock's jacket is going to be so cool with all that detail <3

And I love this icon.

*preens like Sherlock*

That icon so beautifully expresses how deeply secure John is. Only someone who knows their own worth without a doubt can withstand the beauty of Sherlock's brilliance.

I did my first time beta-ing for a Holmestice fic. SO EXCITED!

(FUCK editing is HARD. But I loved doing it! And the story had a really hot scene in it that used an idea I haven't seen anywhere else yet and I'm dying to tell people about it!)

From: [identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com
Why are you awake? Oh wait, it's only midnight where you are, right. :D

I had [livejournal.com profile] drinkingcocoa do a bit of art beta on my Holmestice piece. I think she would have preferred if there had been some grammar to check or a plot to scrutinize. Being a good beta is hard.

After it posts, poke me so I make sure to appreciate the hot scene.

I'm regularly a ridiculous night owl, but yeah, only midnight over here.

I will definitely post about it on my LJ and/or tumblr when it goes up!

I know nothing about art. *grin*

Pass me a virgin!Martin story and I'll beta the heck out of it.

*cuddling Martin, who is currently happily full from Thanksgiving leftover breakfast*

Also, if and when I get enough of a break during the weekend, I want to write about one moment of doing beta for Emma's story! Molly love for the win! Emma's genius, topping me, for the win!

Emma is so awesome that she makes me feel like a good beta. *preen*
