He controls his emotions (like Snape and most Slytheris), he became a Federation captain and Ambassador (ambition), he figures out how to get around rules (cunning) as seen in his rescue of the disabled Captain Pike in "Menagerie", he sacrificed himself to save the Enterprise just as Severus spent his life to protect Harry, and he grew up scorned on Vulcan because he was a halfbreed among purebloods but eventually rose up (like Snape).
