Sherlock Fanart, The Fall Parts 1 and 2

I've finally started on my next piece of Sherlock fanart, which is inspired by the events and themes of The Reichenbach Fall. This one is going to require me to stick closer to the visual source material and is going to push me to do something really different from what I normally do. It's also necessitating that I locate a bunch of good reference photos from the episode, and I'm finding that it's taking me a lot longer.

Here's how i started, with an outline. I spent several hours scouring google images for a good profile shot of Sherlock, but there really weren't any. However, I eventually settled on this because I think it's quite iconic for the character and might actually serve my purposes best.

Hopefully it's clear what I'm trying to do. I'm happy with the placement of these three components of the Fall, though I will flesh out the details better. My intent is to do all in black ink. I'm thinking of maybe just cross-hatching, but that still really far off. For now, I'm debating what other components to include and am looking for optimal references. Any advice on what you think should be included and where?

Dude, seriously, I literally gasped when I clicked through the cut. Wow. Just wow. I wish I could form a coherent enough thought right now to be able to offer any relevant advice, but I'm awash in ALL THE FEELINGS right now. Creeping Emperor penguins, woman, you make my life so much more awesome just by sharing your genius with us! <3<3<3

Awe.

*blushes*

We'll see how this turns out. It's one thing to have an idea in your head. It's another for it to come out okay on paper.

And I'm counting on your excellent reference sleuthing skills to help me like they did last time!

LOL! Awwww... Hmm, so you're looking to add more to this piece, as in other images? I don't know how "busy" or "collage-y" you want to make it, so...
Ideas:
John on the phone looking up at Sherlock on the roof
the word Believe
John back with his cane *sob*
a blank screen on John's blog, or the last post: http://www.johnwatsonblog.co.uk/blog/16ajune
their hands while they're in handcuffs--John holding onto Sherlock's coat cuff
the spray painted smiley face with the bulletholes from their sitting room

Of course, ANYTHING you decide to do will be brilliant and I will love you even harder for it, no matter what it is. :D

I'm def going to include the wallpaper in 221b with possibly the smiley face as it's so iconic and will be good for fleshing out some of the more oddly shaped parts.

I love the idea of John's last post. Just might do that.

*happy sigh* You are so awesome.

good reference photos from the episode

Are you watching the sherlockbbc LJ comm? People often post good screen caps there.

I'm scared shitless. I really want to do something different, and it's always hard the first time.

I need to get on that comm stat. I've been spending far too much time on tumblr, which is awesome but also sometimes too amusing for my own good.

Mmmmm... I like that icon very much.

Oh wow. I am really happy that you are stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something like this. I have no good ideas but maybe even some text? The wordplay on fall of the reichenbach and a literal fall? And iou?

*sneaks in*
Pssst... take a peek again at the top of his head... see the IOU with what looks like one wing on the left? [livejournal.com profile] pennswoods is bang clever, isn't she? *huge grin*
*sneaks back out*

Yeah, I've got to finish that. Until it's sort of shaded in, it's going to be hard to figure out what's going on up there.

[identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely including IOU. I was thinking of showing Sherlock on the ground, but I think that might be too much with the bit of him about to jump. We'll see though.

This is going to take a while and I'd love feedback as I work on the lineart.

Ooh Ooh Ooh! Am liking it already, looking forward to see the progression to the final art!!

[identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Thank you. I'll continue to post updates for feedback, but I anticipate this one taking longer than normal, especially once I start inking.

Okay, not to be too creepy, but I was stalking your fanart tag for a moment (all of it is so awesome!) and I just had to tell you that this is so beautiful, already, and I predict that the end result will actually give me a heart attack.

[identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com 2012-04-03 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
:D Thanks for stalking. I need to get back to working on this piece. Truth be told, it's so different from what I normally do that I'm kind of intimidated by it and don't want to screw it up!

Thank you Ven. It's a real change for me.
