Title: The Doctor's Companions
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Severus Snape, TARDIS
Rating: General
Links: Ao3 | DeviantArt | Tumblr
Notes: Imagine what it would be like if the Doctor's companions were a consulting detective and a half-blood wizard. Drawn for [livejournal.com profile] morethansirius who requested a little crossover of her favorite fandoms as her [livejournal.com profile] exchange_bingo prize.

Title: Coming Home
Characters: Hermione Granger/Severus Snape
Rating: PG

Summary: A sequence of 4 pictures drawn for the Winter 2012 [livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange for [livejournal.com profile] teaoli's prompt: "Hermione riding a bike and coming home at night, tired and dejected, then surprised (and ultimately overjoyed) to find Snape standing in a pool of light in her doorway." This will  be the last fest or exchange-based piece of fanart I do for a while. At the time I drew this, it had been a while since I'd drawn Snape, and this really shows in the third panel. (Too much Sherlocking, I fear!)

Shamelessly borrowed and modified from [livejournal.com profile] mugenmine. Yearly fannish retrospectives are fun and useful for looking at where we've been and where we're going, and this past year saw a huge shift in my arting that was beyond my wildest imagination. I hope 2013 is just as surprising and interesting. I also really want to improve.

Title: Christmas Crossover
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Severus Snape
Rating: G
Links: On Tumblr | On AO3 | On Deviantart Part I | On Deviantart Part II
Summary: For Christmas this year, Sherlock found himself engrossed in the tale of a morally ambiguous half-blood wizard while Severus was intrigued by the deductive abilities of the world's only consulting detective.
Notes: Art for this year's holiday cards. [livejournal.com profile] holyfant wisely pointed out that it's more likely that Severus would be interested in a book about crime solving than Sherlock would be in a book about wizards. However, I like to think both would find merits in the stories of the other and that perhaps John had gifted Sherlock with a set of popular fiction books with all the murders tabbed on account of a serial killer with a tendency to copy crime scenes from well-known books. As for Severus, I'll leave you to decide who H is.

Title: De principibus
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Severus Snape
Rating: G
Links: On Tumblr | On AO3 | On Deviantart
Notes: There are many parallels between these two singular characters, which are represented here textually and visually. A gift for [livejournal.com profile] drinkingcocoa, who loves these two as much as I do, and who identified the quotes from BBC Sherlock, the Harry Potter series, and Machiavelli's The Prince that best link these men. The title is Latin and translates to "Of Leaders" and is a play on the Latin translation of Machiavelli's work. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sc010f for sharing her Latin expertise.

Not quite done, but here's the piece so far. I wanted to draw these two in parallel as much as possible since the purpose of this piece is to highlight their similarities. This meant I wanted to use similar coloring techniques on both. Both have a talisman that is not black and both have a textured hero's cape of sorts. Sherlock's coat pleases me with how it came out, but I struggled a bit finding a way to incorporate a different but parallel technique for Snape's robes. Black is always tricky to represent, but I settled on tiny circles with tight horizontal lines to give his robes a more fluid feel.
